Porto Jofre in Brazil's Northern Pantanal holds the highest density of jaguars anywhere in their range, with Brazil home to roughly half the world's jaguar population. Unlike jaguars elsewhere, the cats here swim, hunt caiman in open water, and stay active through the day, so sightings actually happen in daylight, not just at dawn.

For photographers, it's boat-based tracking along the Cuiabá River and its channels, eye level with the animal instead of looking down from a vehicle. That single shift in perspective is what separates Pantanal jaguar images from every other big cat photograph. Add giant river otters, giant anteaters, and a jabiru stork towering over the wetlands, and the supporting cast is just as strong.
